Leonce and Lena // 2012
Leonce and Lena, written in 1836, is a play by Georg Büchner. Leonce, the angst-ridden prince of the Kingdom of Popo, and Lena, the suffering princess of the neighbouring Kingdom of Pipi, decide to run away rejecting their arranged marriage. Driven by chance, they meet and fall in love with each other, without knowing their true identities. In an absurd situation, the King accepts to marry two puppets so as not to cancel the expected wedding festivities. The group Teatro Maquina creates an athletic rendering of the encounter between the young lovers as a funny and dynamic game, and offers the public a way to revisit themes such as idleness and freedom.
